Commie Almost Shot -- Righties Almost Happy

Ooh, a scandal!

Giuliana Sgrena, a reporter for the Italian publication "Il Manifesto," has said, in essence, the US government is full of it, alleging she may have been deliberately targeted. The controversy isn't that someone working for a vehemently anti-American publication with a name like "Il Manifesto" is apparently alleging an American conspiracy, but that her claims may be legitimate.

Sgrena, decorated by the Italian President for her reporting, was captured by militants February in a failed attempt to force Italy to remove troops from Iraq. Sgrena claims her captors warned her not to signal her presence to anyone, because "the Americans might intervene," reported Maria Sanminiatelli of the Associated Press. Ironically, she was gunned down shortly afterward by American troops. Spooky, huh?

The Pentagon's story was, basically, that the car Sgrena was in was barreling down the road while the inhabitants screamed "We will kill the infidels!" in Arabic and French, ignoring troops who were waving spotlights and announcing their position over a bullhorn in a sing-song manner (possibly to the tune of our national anthem). Part of the story, that the car was speeding, defies logic -- "there was heavy rain in Baghdad and you can't travel at speed on that road," reports the Guardian.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened. Or the second. Or third or fourth. [via]

Some of the more intelligent out there are apparently upset that so few people died. It seems nothing can satisfy the Righty bloodlust.

As noted by the All Spin Zone, it echoes an old controversy.

As a socialist reporter I'm sure she will milk this for more than it really is. I've heard rumors she has already contacted Dan Rather for a mentor on how to attack freedom seekers.

Also - has she no brains? Perhaps now she will associate "war zone" with "danger". DUH!

Comrade -- Yeah. Those damned socialists -- so much less moral than us capitalists, I can tell you! And that Dan Rather... I hear he's killed seven refugees.

And, not to nit-pick, but, I think she's a communist, which, if you'll remember your Leninist/Marxist theory, is the step after socialism. She's advanced way past socialism by now, give her some credit.

Also - I agree. Reporters should never go into danger zones. They should sit back at home and just make shit up, like FoxNews. Fuck that "integrity" tripe.
